Terms and Conditions

  1. short stories are accepted on any subject, from a minimum of 1500 words to a maximum of 5000 words
  2. prizes of £100.00, £50.00, £25.00 will be awarded to the best three stories
  3. entry fee is £5.00 per story and must be made using the competition entry form on www.writersdock.org. This page gives details of how a payment by cheque can be made
  4. entrants do not have to be a member of Writers’ Dock to enter the competition
  5. entrants are entitled to a free twelve week gold membership trial subscription on entering the competition. This can be applied for at the time of entry - usual terms and conditions apply. (This may take up to a week to process.)
  6. entrants’ names should not appear on the entry
  7. entrants details must be entered in the entry form, along with the title of the story submitted
  8. entries should carry the title and page number on each sheet
  9. entries must be typed in 12 point Ariel, Courier or Times New Roman font and attached in .doc, .txt, .pdf or .rtf format when registering
  10. entries must not be previously published. (Stories reviewed on Writers’ Dock or similar forums are not considered published)
  11. prize winners, give permission for stories to be reproduced on Writers' Dock's website, Writers' Dock's "Anchor Magazine" or in a subsequent Writers’ Dock anthology. The author retains copyright
  12. competitors may not win more than one prize
  13. competition organisers reserve the right to substitute a prize for another prize of the same value or greater
  14. critiques of entered stories can be obtained at a further fee of £4.00 per story. Payment for critiques should be made at time of entry using the facilities provided. (Critiques are produced by a panel of published authors after the competition judging is complete. AND WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER )
  15. closing date to receive entries by is 23.59hrs 30th November 2008
  16. results will be announced on the Writers' Dock website by 28th February 2009
  17. all involved in organising and running the competition and their family members may not enter
  18. the judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
